The concert premieres my song series The uncompromisingness of gloom for baritone and piano. The compositions of the series have been presented separately, but now it will be heard as a whole for the first time. Here is a small description of the work:
”The uncompromisingness of gloom is a three-part song series for baritone and piano that transports its listeners to the darkest shades of life – the landscapes of grief, separation and death. This piece is the result of a long collaboration and friendship between baritone Reijo Alatalo and me. Our saying ”we don’t compromise on gloom” has been the starting point of this composition and it is crystallized in the title of the work.
In the songs of the series, the texts of Finnish poets come to life through music and envelop the listener in the gloom with tender acceptance. However, at the heart of these songs lies a glimmer of light: life is beautiful, and even though sadness has a grip on us, it eventually subsides.”
